Anniversary Weekend Friday 9/20/13- DInner and a Show

After the event we made our way to California Adventure for our dinner reservations at Carthay Circle.  As you can see we went all out for our first anniversary together.

At Carthay Circle we purchased the World of Color package.  This package gives you VIP "seating" (really it is standing) for the World of Color at your choice of time.  You can purchase this package at either lunch or dinner.  You not only receive tickets for VIP seating for the World of Color but the meal includes appetizer, entree, desert, and drink (soda, tea and coffee, nothing fancy) from a special menu for this package.  We looked at the menu ahead of time so that when we got to the restaurant we knew what we wanted and were not playing the "I don't know what I want" game.

Tommy ordered the Seasonal Soup, Sauteed Short Rib Raviolis and the Toasted Lemon Pound Cake for desert.  I ordered the Carthay Green Salad, Western Cut Pork Chops, and the Toasted Lemon Pound Cake as well.  We also ordered off the menu and the Carthay Signature Fried Biscuits.  The biscuits are definitely a must try for anyone who goes.  The food was amazing.  The soup was better than the salad and what we will be ordering in the future.  Both entrees were very good.  The Pork Chop was cooked very well.  I am normally not a fan of Pork Chops because, as I am sure as many of you know, when you cook them at home they are often dry.  This Pork Chop was juicy and tender.  Normally I would not order a Pork Chop at a restaurant because as I said they end up dry, but Tommy talked me into it and we were both glad he did.  His Raviolis were very good as well but not my favorite (he really enjoyed it and I was too in love with my Pork Chop).  The Lemon Pound Cake was also very good.  I love any desert that is Lemon so I had already assumed I would like it but it was above and beyond what I expected.  It was moist and the blueberries and cream were a nice touch.

Tommy's thoughts - The best part of Carthay Circle isn't necessarily the food; rather, it is the isolation of it.  You don't think of California Adventure as a quiet relaxing place for the most part, but that is what this restaurant is.  It is an excellent place to get away from all the screaming kids and creepy characters walking around outside and just put your feet up for a while.  And the food is also good enough to go for.

After dinner we had a about 30 minutes to spare before our show.  So we went to change into the clothes we brought then walked over to the World of Color seating.  We had seen the World of Color once before but this time we actually paid attention and took it all in.  Unfortunately we were stuck behind a pole the whole time and it was in our view for most of the show.  Other than the pole we really enjoyed the show.  A nice little touch during the show was the planters in front of us also shot up water.  It really made us feel like we were a part of the show.  We hope to see it again (without the pole in the way of course) before they change the show.  We were told that the World of Color show will be changing within the next year.

Tommy's thoughts - World of Color is easily the best show at the parks right now.  It isn't like anything you have seen anywhere else.  My favorite movie is Wall-E so obviously I like that they included it in the show.  I'm glad that they are updating it though, because there are a lot more things that they can do with it like expanding on the pyrotechnics in the Pirates segment.
